New York City

The Hummus & Pita Co.

Coming from Middle Eastern descent has made me extremely bias towards the cuisine and how it’s supposed to taste. Middle Eastern/ Mediterranean food is my absolute FAVORITE food to eat, and is overall healthy for you. New York City has a multitude of Middle Eastern food places, as it’s a generally cheap and good cuisine.

During my lunch break, I Yelped places around me with healthy Middle Eastern food and came across The Hummus & Pita Co. The reviews were really great, so I was excited to try it. The place is chipotle-style, where you can pick if you want a bowl, pita sandwich, platter, and laffa (which is basically a wrap). The major fillings are falafel, chicken shawarma, gyro, vegetarian, chicken, or steak. They have around 20 fillings ranging from various couscous, salads, and vegetables.

What I got:

Shawarma, tomato/cucumber salad, cabbage, hummus, and grilled vegetables.

The shawarma was very good, but a tad greasy. Honestly, everything else was lacking flavor. I felt that everything needed salt and lemon, two ingredients that Middle Eastern food usually has an abundance of. The hummus wasn’t even good, and the place itself has hummus in the title.

It was $13 for a lot of food, but was not that great. I don’t think I’d go back, unless I brought my own lemon.
